I suffered severe post partum depression after the birth of my son, so bad that I didn’t step outside my front door for over 3 months. This picture is the first time I went outside with my son, and it was a total fucking triumph.

Hi, I’m 25. No kids (yet) and I want to tell you, after reading the mom and pregnancy articles BuzzFeed has done, all you moms are so fucking powerful. It blows my mind with how much women go through during pregnancy, childbirth and after. You are all such strong, powerful women doing one of the best things in the world. Don’t let the haters get to you and keep doing what you’re doing because you are all such bad ass awesome moms.

What no one tells you is that not everyone CAN breastfeed. I wanted to so badly and when I realized I wouldn’t be able to produce enough milk and my son couldn’t latch, I cried for days. I now live attached to a pump, which only yields 5oz a day, and have to defend my breastfeeding journey, yes pumping IS breastfeeding, to everyone. People, STOP asking how we are feeding our child (breast/bottle/formula)!!! It’s none of your business!! We don’t shake your hand and ask your dietary preferences.... To all my mamas out there, keep feeding your littles the best way you can! Here is mine getting cuddles while I pump for his next feeding.

After my daughter was born 18 years ago I suffered from post partum depression. It was horrible and still hard to talk about. Suddenly I understood how a mother could kill their child and why. Once that relaxation struck I told my now ex who watched me sleep that night and took me to my doctor the next morning. Citalopram saved my sanity and my child. Still all these years have gone by and I'm still so ashamed of how I felt that I hate talking about it. I also realize that I have to talk about if only to let other Mothers know they are not monsters, that it's your brain, not you. Get help, get meds, talk to you spouse or partner and know you are not alone.

My postpartum reality was not believing that you really are extra fertile shortly after giving birth especially if you’re not breastfeeding. Our first baby was born January 3, 2018 and our second is due December 8, 2018. If you do the math, we conceived #2 when our baby was about 10 weeks old and after I had only had 1 period.

Eating chicken nuggets after my oldest daughter was born... First meal I was able to eat for like 2 days.

Pumping in my car in the college parking lot between classes because there are no private places to pump inside and I refused to sit in a bathroom and pump.

This pic was taken after I had waited for almost an hour to get to hold her. I tore pretty bad and lost a lot of blood so it took a whole team of nurses plus the doctor to get the bleeding to stop. She just waited patiently for them to finish. I was so happy to finally get to hold her. She is an amazing baby and has changed my life for the better in every way.

So my postpartum resulted in this. I have alopecia and once I had my son (this was 2014) my hair decided to jump ship. Today, I am completely bald. My postpartum ended up making me have alopecia universalis, and I honestly wouldn’t trade it for anything. I still have a hard time dealing with my hair loss, but my baby is so worth it.

After nearly dying delivering our twins, I finally met our daughter June. She is living with a congenital heart defect and has had two open heart surgeries so far. This was the moment I met the inspiration for my life's passion - postpartum doula care.
